August 2010
Hello, yalls, you fab folks you. It’s been a busy August here at GBS. We’re continuing our work on the film GrooveShack, as well as making records with our clients celtic band extraordinaire The Drowsy Lads, as well as Jack Morris, Go, Robot, Go, Columbus’ professional dance company BalletMet, and others (it was great working with EveryDay Sunday this past month on their killer new material; great stuff!) Tom just returned from a trip to Colorado with client and Colorado resident Alison Kitchen, where Alison (an amazing singer/songwriter) her husband, Steve, and Tom took in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO. 3 days of incredible performers; the line up was unbelievable; a highlight being The Swell Season headlining Saturday night, but other acts included Richard Thompson, Ani DeFranco, John Prine, Dala, Marc Cohn, David Wilcox, Bela Fleck, Greg Brown, and a new favorite, Ellis, and many others. It was very inspirational and we here at GBS will continue to host our Songwriters Workshop events with the energy of that festival fanning the creative flames.
Check out BalletMet’s upcoming performance of Requiem, Oct 1-9th, at the Capital Theatre. They are also putting on a free show at the Riverfront Ampitheater WaterFire event at 8PM on Sept 3rd.
Our friends at The Guitar House Workshop are at the Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival Sept 6th, in the Emerging Artists Booth #6. Stop by and say hello to Johnny B and the boys.
Our good friend Lizard McGee from the band Earwig is proud to announce that his son Keegan McGee-Moore has a showing of his art at 83 Gallery for Gallery Hop on saturday, Sept 4th, from 6 to 11PM.
Tom’s project as voice talent for Microsoft continues with such fervor that he was unable to join Alison and Steve Kitchen again for the FourCornersFolkFestival in Colorado Labor Day weekend, nor join his friend Andy Harrison at Sheryl Crow’s concert at Red Rocks on August 31st. Somebody deserves a slapindamouth (but not Bill Gates, noooo, not him!) Abandoned vacation!? Boo-hoo!
Like movies? Fine food? Visit The Grandview Theater, catch a film, and say hello to our friend David Nedrow and his wife Jennifer. This is a fantastic asset to Grandview’s art scene; an independent theater in this world of giant corporate chains. And while you’re there, stop by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams or enjoy an incredible meal at our friend Rick Ziliak’s amazing restaurant, Z Cucina. Support your local and independent artisans. Yay!
We here at GBS hope that your summer has been fabulous. We’re looking forward to making more great music with yalls soon. peace and love, GBS Records.
