Gear

GBS/OATH is a professional multitrack recording facility. We have several recording platforms to maximize flexibility for the client. This way we can best serve your needs. For example, you could track drums or basic tracks at our studio and then take the tracks to your home studio for overdubs, saving you lots o’ cash. Then bring the tracks back here, integrate them seamlessly with our system, and mix or master with our powerful console and mastering tools. Or bring tracks recorded at home here to overdub vocals with…  say, a Neumann or BLUE mic, through world-class preamps and compressors. Anything to make the project a success, and to help the client maximize their budget. We not only have two separate Avid/Digidesign Pro Tools|HD3 systems, we also have most of the popular PC recording platforms.

MIXING CONSOLES  (both Analog and Digital):

DIGITAL:

Mackie Digital 8 Bus (56-input)

The heart of Studio A is our Mackie D8B digital console. This is a very, very powerful device with incredible DSP (digital signal processing) and total fully recallable automated mixing. With our ProTools/Mackie D8B combination, what we’re doing here is imitating world class studios in our own humble way. Many major label releases are recorded using ProTools, and ProTools itself is a very powerful platform in its own right, but many if not most of major label records are still mixed, even if they’re coming out of ProTools, with a mixing console, the SSL (Solid State Logic) being far away most professional’s choice. These are million dollar consoles with a fabulous signature sound. The good folks at Mackie have designed the D8B very much along the lines of these famous SSL mixers. So much so that many major studios have the Digital 8-Bus as mixing console in their B rooms. So say many famous producers, such as Rodney Jerkins (one of the hottest producers going these days: Beyonce, etc) they did such a great job that one “doesn’t know if you mixed on an SSL or a Mackie board.” We do this because we’re greedy. We want these sounds for our own records. And for our client’s records. And we don’t want to have to charge million dollar rates to our wonderful friends, our clients. Ah, yes, we’re greedy and clever. And Eric’s a Wall Street banker. OK, not really. But he dresses like a jetsetter! From the 70′s. Think bellbottoms with platfom shoes.

POWER

We have a Balanced Power system at OATH Studios. This very clean and stable type of electrical current allows our equipment to operate with extremely low-noise, critical for high-quality digital recording. This is the same type of system used in hospitals for very delicate electronics.
